Michigan Park and Brookland Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Washington, D.C.

Michigan Park and Brookland
Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Washington, D.C.

Michigan Park and Brookland are two attractive and quiet residential neighborhoods located in the northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. A short five miles northeast of the White House, Michigan Park and Brookland seem worlds away from the sights and sounds that make D.C. one of the country’s most visited destinations. Michigan Park is bounded by Gallatin Street NE, 6th Street NE, Taylor Street NE/Michigan Avenue and South Dakota Avenue. Brookland is roughly outlined by Otis Street, 9th Street NE, Rhode Island Avenue NE and South Dakota Avenue. Between 14th and South Dakota, Brookland’s border bumps out to Taylor Street so that the community also incorporates Mount St. Sepulchre Franciscan Monastery. Surrounding Brookland and Michigan Park are the neighborhoods of North Michigan Park, Langdon, Brentwood and University Heights. This region of D.C. was mainly farmland until it was established by the University in the late 19th century. Following the arrival of the University, Craftsman bungalows and Victorian Queen Anne homes cropped up, attracting a diverse middle-class population. Today’s Michigan Park and Brookland residents are largely civic-minded and appreciative of art and culture. Local landmarks include historic buildings and Fort Bunker Hill. While high-end shopping and dining is available in other parts of D.C., Brookland has a small, but thriving business corridor that caters to the neighborhood population.
